About

Calvin PCA’s Distinctives

  • Reformed - Calvin PCA is a Reformed congregation. As Reformed believers we emphasize 1) the absolute authority of the Scriptures in all matters of faith and practice; 2) the sovereignty of God over all things; 3) God’s covenant of grace - a covenant that extends through the Old and New Testaments into today, and culminates in the person and work of Jesus Christ; 4) the Law of God, which reveals God’s will for mankind, shows us our need for a savior, and guides us in righteousness; 5) the church as God’s covenant community under the headship of Christ; and 6) the kingdom of God, a kingdom that is now growing as the gospel advances, and will one day reach completion when Christ returns in power and glory.
  • Evangelical - As an evangelical church we emphasize the biblical truths that salvation is by grace through faith in Christ alone.
  • Presbyterian - Our church is governed locally by a board of elders who are nominated and called by the congregation. Because we recognize the church is more than just a local body, we are also governed by a regional body of churches called a presbytery, and by a national body of churches called the General Assembly.
  • Multi-Generational and Family Oriented - We rejoice that people come to Calvin from all ages and all walks of life. We are careful not to establish a “target audience” that defines who we are as a church. We value the family and offer numerous educational and growth opportunities for children and adults of all ages.

A Brief History

In 1956, about 85 people, under the ministry of Rev. William D. Johnson, began worshiping in family homes. Their desire was to start a new Presbyterian church that believes the Bible is God’s perfect word to us, where Jesus Christ is exalted as Savior and Lord, and where salvation through faith in Christ alone are emphasized.

In 1959 the congregation built it’s first building. In 1982 the church joined the Presbyterian Church in America (PCA). And in 1992 the congregation purchased the historic Long Run Presbyterian Church building, where we currently meet.

Rev. Johnson pastored Calvin until 1958. After him, Calvin was pastored by Rev. Robert Milliken (1959-1964), Rev. Samuel Ward (1964-1982), Rev. Robert Weeber (1983-2006), and Rev. Aaron Garber (2006-present).

From its beginning Calvin has worshiped morning and evening on the Lord’s Day.
