Today Tim Challies posted a review of the book, Going Public: Your Child Can Thrive in Public School. It was a good review - looks like a good book - I hope to read it soon. In his review Tim offered the following advice which I found exceedingly good, gracious, loving, and deeply Christian:
If you homeschool or have your children in Christian schools, I’d encourage you to buy a copy or two of this book. Keep them handy and when you meet people who know the Lord and who feel convicted that they can or should put their children in public schools, give them a copy as a way to love and encourage them. You may even want to read it with them.
I am so grateful to pastor a church in which home-schoolers, Christian-schoolers, and public-schoolers live in harmony with one another. This, of course, is not always the case. Often one looks upon the other with suspicion and pride - and this is what makes Challies' advice so compelling. He helps home-schoolers see a very practical way they can love and affirm their public school friends. As a current home-schooler (and likely future public-schooler), I'm so glad for the advice!
